Blogmas Day 21 – Christmas Traditions!

Hi everyone!

Today, for my Blogmas post I’m going to talk about traditions in my household and family.

In my home we put up a tree every year, then decorate it with baubles, tinsel, lights and crackers. Usually the same decorations that we’ve had for the past 20 years, unless we buy a few new bits and pieces through the month. (which is very rarely)

Every Christmas morning we wake up early, come downstairs and sort the presents into piles. This way we know who’s is who’s to save time, and we wait for everyone to wake up and be ready before we even open a single gift as we like to do it together. We don’t tend to do Christmas stockings anymore.

Through the day we play Christmas songs on repeat and never leave the house. We don’t go anywhere, but my family members tend to come over to visit us and stay until late afternoon playing cards. We also see them on NewYears night too.

For some reason we always use the “special” cutlery at dinner time, which is basically just normal forks and knives from a fancy box… (is this just my family??)

No offence to my mum, but she’s not the best cook, and neither am I. So the Christmas dinner usually consists of different types of meats, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, gravy and weird sauces like apple and cranberry. I don’t tend to look forward to it like most people do, it’s really just a fancy roast dinner.

We also pull crackers before dinner so that we can all wear the paper crowns around the table.

There’s always a cheese tray full of different cheeses after dinner, with grapes and ham. Usually followed by wine for my family and a J2O drink for me as I can’t drink alcohol.

After dinner we usually watch Christmas movies including Elf, The Polar Express, Home Alone, Edward Scissorhands and The Grinch.

By the end of the night we usually leave everything where it is because we’re just too tired to do anything else and clean it all up the next morning.

Do you have any specific family Christmas traditions? Let me know!

Thanks for reading and I’ll see you all tomorrow with another Blogmas post!

Best wishes ~ Becca x
