A few days ago I went to the Joe Browns Christmas Meadowhall store event!
I was invited by Joe Browns to attend as it’s the first and only store that they’ve ever made, and they wanted bloggers and influencers to come and spread the word! The store can be found in Meadowhall – Sheffield, upstairs across from the Apple store.
I brought Jess along as my +1 and I’m going to be completely honest, I didn’t have very high expectations. This was mostly because I’d never heard of Joe Browns and from what I’d seen, I didn’t like the look of most of the clothes.
But once we arrived and were greeted by the lovely staff, offered drinks and nibbles, and were also given goodie bags, I began to get really excited about the whole thing!
They even had a game where you’d write your name on a piece of paper and pop it into an envelope, then a blindfolded model would choose an envelope with her hands and pick out a name. Whoever won got a gift voucher!
Me and Jess took the opportunity to browse the store, which I really enjoyed doing as I prefer to shop in person than online, and Jess had the chance to try-on some items. We also had a £10 voucher in the goodie bag which we spent on a book and a pin.
The owner and creator of the store, Simon Brown, stood up and gave us all a speech in which he explained his inspiration for the brand as well as his brief stint of being broke and unhappy to turning his life around!
He opened himself up to questions but not many people asked, so I took the opportunity to ask about the store’s style and design.
He told us that the little red pub on the right side of the beach mural represented the Welsh pub that he was in when he first came up with the idea of Joe Browns. He saw teens running on the beach and decided that he wanted to create that kind of happiness and give it to others!
The leopards were based on a statue that he bought from a man late at night on the side of a road.
The pink rabbits were a gift from someone and he decided to incorporate them into the designs and store.
And since he travels the world looking for ideas for the clothes, he brought back an orange piece of art from Zanzibar and hung it in the store.
He enjoys travelling to countries around the world and taking style inspiration from them. His aim is to make people remark on each item, he wants to get people talking and discussing his products.
He proudly admitted that he doesn’t want to appeal to everyone, he just wants to appeal to those that want to be individual and different.
He’s also working on a deal with Jacamo and SimplyBe to bring out more larger sizes as he wants everyone to be included!
He’s even working on a kids range and a home section!
After his speech I got the pleasure of talking with Simon one on one, where I asked for an exclusive quote from him. He said “Everything that we do and touch, we try to make remarkable. The store, the products and the people in it are all remarkable. We’re completely inclusive and everyone is welcome. Let’s have some fun!”
Getting to know Simon was a real dream come true, as it’s not every day you get to have a conversation or ask questions to the owner of a big fashion brand!
We discussed personal information and he told me about how he was nervous talking in front of the crowd. I assured him that he did a great job and my friend Jess also got to learn a bit more about the fashion industry.
Simon was a really lovely man and even offered to work with me on a paid sponsorship, offering me more than I originally asked for! He doesn’t do this for any other influencer / Blogger so I feel extremely grateful for this amazing once in a lifetime opportunity!
Getting to know Mr Brown really made me see how much of an interesting and wonderful man he is. I’m definitely going to be popping into the store and buying from his shop as often as I can!
It’s great to know that my clothes are coming from someone that actually cares about the people and is a real human being!
After we chatted for half an hour, the store did a runway with models showing the items and even next years styles!
After this me and Jess had to head home, so we said our goodbyes to Simon and the other staff members, we even both got a kiss on the cheek!
And that really sums up my time at the Joe Browns event.
It was an amazing experience and I’m so glad that I got to be there in their first ever store with the man himself.
The event was definitely one of the most eye-opening and unforgettable events that I’ve attended and I can’t wait for more in the future!
