GIAN GALANG

Painter. Mark Maker. Boxer. Creative. Meet Gian, visual artist and illustrator based in New York.

With a focus on capturing figures in motion, movement, and bold compositions in his work, Gian uses unconventional tools to create textures that convey impact, speed, or radiating energy. These fluid, rough, and intentional textures are collaged opposite one another to form portraits that are uniquely Gian:

“I like seeing unexpected juxtapositions. So, if I am trying to express a certain type of impact, maybe I will use a rough roller and a more aggressive brushstroke. Or, if I am trying to express speed, maybe I’ll paint on a nonporous substrate to get a real watery, liquid effect. And I’ve also been experimenting with paint pours that give me textures that feel like energy.”
