Two things: the particles - Resin Sand is actually tiny acrylic granules, while Natural Sand contains real sand. And the result - Resin Sand gives a coarser dry finish.
Sand will give instant texture, but it brings contaminants with it unless it's been sterilized, and this can affect the way your work ages. We would recommend using Natural Sand or Resin Sand mediums to create the same effect.
You can start by creating texture literally from the ground up by using our Super Heavy Gesso. It will give you an archival base with high peaks and marks, ready to apply color to. Or try one of our effects mediums with color or neat.
